The Zelhart Family

It is the Zelhart family’s wish that this gift and recognition will encourage MFHS students to pursue their hopes and dreams and become productive contributors to their community and society.

John Zelhart graduated from Maroa High School in 1942. He played football, ran track, and was involved with the ag program when Mr. Melvin Nicol was hired as the ag program teacher and advisor. Mr. Nicol made a lasting impression on John, influencing his career decisions and providing a great role model for him in his personal life. John went on to become a respected area farmer, serving on a number of boards and committees for the local agri-business community and church. He held many fond memories of his days as a Maroa student.

In 1955, John married Imogene Worner, and they started their life together on the farm West of Maroa. They raised three sons who graduated from MFHS, along with their two daughters-in-law. All six of their grandchildren have graduated from MF Schools. Maroa-Forsyth Schools were an important part of John and Imogene’s lives and their families’ lives.

John M. Zelhart passed away in 2013.
