The Zelhart Family

It is the Zelhart family’s wish that this gift and recognition will encourage MFHS students to pursue their hopes and dreams and become productive contributors to their community and society.

Imogene Worner was born and raised on a Tazewell County farm, near Green Valley, Illinois. After graduating from Illinois Wesleyan college, she took a job with a bank in Chicago for a brief period of time. In 1947 she was hired as the Maroa High School World History, Spanish, and Current Affairs teacher. Imogene had many fond memories of the High School, staff, and students during her time as a teacher. All through her life, she had a passion for music. She enjoyed singing and participated in choirs, singing for weddings and funerals.

In 1955, Imogene married James Zelhart, and they started their life together on the farm West of Maroa. They raised three sons who graduated from MFHS, along with their two daughters-in-law. All six of their grandchildren have graduated from MF Schools. Maroa-Forsyth Schools were an important part of John and Imogene’s lives and their families’ lives.

Imogene F. (Worner) Zelhart passed away in 2018.
