In-Person Learning Update from Dr. Ahlemeyer

November 18, 2020

Dear MTF Families,

The School Board had a Special Meeting last night for the purpose of dealing with the next steps of the new superintendent search. They were also able to discuss the newly released guidance from the Macon County Health Department (MCHD) regarding the recommendation for schools to consider not allowing the In Person learning option between Thanksgiving and winter break.

A very thoughtful and caring dialogue followed weighing the public health & safety recommendation against Maroa-Forsyth School District data that has supported the In Person option that has been implemented in a way that not only adheres to the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) guidelines but also supports the mental health and educational opportunities for our students.

The School Board aims to make an informed decision that represents all stakeholders of our school district for our post Thanksgiving plans for the 3 weeks between that holiday and winter break. To that end, the building principals will be sending out a survey to you later today to gather parent input. In addition, the School Board will be analyzing staff survey data on the same topic. We ask that you complete the survey by Friday, November 20th at 2:00 PM so that the School Board can analyze the data over the weekend.

The School Board plans to act on the recommendation for what the Remote/In Person plans will be for the time period of Thanksgiving between winter break at their regularly scheduled Board meeting Monday night, November 23rd. Please know there is no "right" answer to this difficult decision and the School Board recognizes and respects everyone's point of view. The School District remains committed to analyzing all decisions against the safety and well being of all students and staff.

Take good care,

John
