Future Planning: Back in May and No More In-Person School

Dear MTF Students and Families,

Now that we are all under the stay at home order until April 30, 2020, the administrative team felt it was important to make some decisions related to school scheduled events for May of 2020. The decision to put something out now is meant to help us all process, plan, and prepare. Please know this was a "gut wrenching heartbreaking" ordeal for us to face.

Because at this time we do not know the status of future extension notices beyond April 30th, we have created two scenarios for all of us to prepare for. One, would be if we were back in session in May. The other one is based on us not coming back at all for in-person education the rest of this school year. We attempted to list all major events but realize the list is not all inclusive to everything that is scheduled and we will deal with not mentioned events on a case by case basis. You will notice all music concerts are cancelled even if we come back in May due to the inability to prepare for those.

- Musical Les Mis May 9/10 Tentative if Possible

AT the MIDDLE SCHOOL:

Please note, at this time, any resumption of Spring sports is still up in the air. Pending the "Return in May vs. Done for the Year" decision, discussions are occurring about a possible abbreviated schedule that would blend into the Summer months.

One of our three priorities during these unprecedented times is to communicate clearly; share coherent, organized and controlled messages with staff, students and the community. While painful, we hope this communication supports that priority and gives us all time to process, prepare, and plan for the near future. We realize that many more questions will likely be generated as a result of this announcement. We will continue to gather feedback and make preparations for more detailed future communications that will likely occur from your building principal related to school building scheduled events. We also recognize that we cannot predict announcements from our state/health officials for not only May, but for June/July and beyond as well. Pending those announcements, we might need to modify events in this communication to different dates and/or virtual experiences. I continue to encourage us all to practice patience, flexibility, and compassion. We so appreciate the many acts of understanding, love, and kindness that increasingly emerge each day. And, way to go to everyone on our Remote Learning plans! Keep it up!!😀.

Finally, I also want to announce that this Friday, April 10 is a Remote Learning Day. Originally, April 10 was a day of non-attendance for Good Friday. Reassigning this as a Remote Learning Day will allow us to shorten the end of the year by one day. This all will eventually end and we will be back in school. It just will be a lot longer than we would like. Enjoy the fresh air today!

Dear MTF Student/Family Nation:

I hope this message finds you and your family safe and well. As you are aware, yesterday, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced that remote learning in Illinois will be extended through April 30 in order to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

As you know, our Remote Learning Plan is ready to start tomorrow April 2 and now will continue through April 30th. During this entire time, on-site learning will remain suspended but our schools’ commitment to learning and education will remain open and learning will continue for all students - just through the different format.

While it is not ideal, we want to assure you that at our teachers and staff are fully engaged and willing to take on this new challenge and push forward with remote learning, engaging with students and continuing with our food distribution program.

I know this is not the school year that any of us imagined, but I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have dealt with this unprecedented situation together.

As a recap, here are the three priorities for our leadership and planning moving forward:

Priority 1 - Feed and care for the extended safety, health, and welfare of students, families, staff, and the community at large.

Priority 2 - Communicate clearly; share coherent, organized and controlled messages with staff, students and the community.

Priority 3 - Provide for continuity of learning.

We are making a change to our meal service out to the community starting next Monday, April 6 to promote social distancing guidelines and essential services. Starting next week, we will only deliver meals once a week, on Mondays, for the entire week. The schedule/locations on these Mondays will not change from the past and are as follows:

April 6, April 13, April 20, April 27

MAROA LIBRARY - 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM

FORSYTH LIBRARY - 9:30 AM to 9:45 AM

BRISTOL GARDENS Apartments - 10:00 AM to 10:15 AM

HICKORY POINT Apartments - 10:20 AM to 10:30 AM

Again, you will be able to pick up a full supply of meals for the entire week on the first day of the week. If you need further food support, please email me at john.ahlemeyer@mfschools.netor contact your building principal or your teacher.

Finally, we are getting a lot of questions about the status of events scheduled for after April 30th through the end of the school year. As we receive data, we are in the process on a daily basis of making plans/announcements regarding those events. Once we know something, we will get it out there for sure. Please be patient.

It’s important we continue to work together and support our students. The two words thoughts that keep popping into my head during this time are flexibility & patience. Thank you so much. Take care.
